Types of audit under GST

The three types of audits under GST are as Follows:

(i) A Chartered Accountant or Cost Accountant are required to conduct the first type of Audit as per section 35(5), where, as stated under Rule 80(3), turnover exceeds the limit of 2 crores.

(ii) furthermore, the Commissioner or any other authorized officer in respect of section 65 of the CGST Act, 2017 and its provisions, is required to conduct the second type of Audit.

(iii) The third type of Audit is namely known as Special Audit which is conducted by the mandate of section 66 of CGST Act, 2017.

Key Points to be noted:

1. What is the period of Audit?

The audit period must be a Financial year or multiple thereof

2. Time Limits to be Noted:

  • To conduct the Audit, a notice shall be served under Form GST ADT-01 to the registered person at least 15 days prior to conducting the audit.
  • Within 3 months of the date of Commencement the audit shall be completed
  • However, with proper reasoning in writing, the period might be further extended by 6 months
  • Within 30 days of the conclusion of the Audit, the audit findings must be communicated to the registered person in Form GST ADT-02
